Impromptu Fusion

A Croatian man married a Kenyan woman, and the wedding guests had a bit of fun as they were waiting for the bride to emerge from the house. The fusion music sounds like cumbia to those who are familiar with it. Here's a peek at the bride and groom. (via reddit)

Samoan Wedding Dance

A Samoan bride, her mother, and her sister perform a traditional dance at the wedding reception as the crowd goes wild. The bride keeps her beautiful beaming smile throughout, and her head straight to keep the headdress intact. Those who know inform us that people joining in is a tradition that emphasizes the talent and synchronicity of the dancers by contrasting it with their not-so-smooth moves. The napkin-waving symbolizes a blessing to the newlyweds. A joyous occasion, indeed.

Weird Luxury Weddings

There are people in this world who can afford to spend millions of dollars on a wedding. That's the perfect way to show the world how filthy rich you are, because there's going to be a lot of pictures testifying to how much you spent on a one-day party. Ryan George was inspired to make this video by Jeff Bezos' wedding last year, which reportedly cost $50 million. That wedding made all the papers, while his ex-wife quietly spends her days writing large checks to charities.

But that's not the only over-the-top wedding designed to flaunt a family's wealth highlighted in this video. Some are more expensive than others, and some are just weird. He also takes. a special look at ridiculous wedding cakes, which probably won't even make you hungry.

Valentine's Day at the City Clerk's Office in NYC

Love was in the air on Valentine's Day as dozens of people got married at the City Clerk's office in New York City. Mayor Zohran Mamdani stepped in to officiate some of the nuptials. Was he there to help relieve the holiday crush, or was it just his way of celebrating love for the occasion? Either way, couples were thrilled to have their number called and see who their officiant would be. Those weddings will be talked about in those families for generations. (via Laughing Squid

The Rattlin' Bog

You may start watching this thinking that they are lip-synching to a record, but no, this woman's voice is just that good. And at the end of an all-night wedding reception.
She is Clodagh McCarthy, singing an old Irish folk song at the wedding of her sister Patrice O’Connor and Donagh Davern in Tipperary. The video went viral a few years ago.
Patrice comes from a family embedded in music and it was therefore no surprise that a sing-song started after the wedding.

However, what has happened since has been phenomenal, as the video of Patrice’s sister Clodagh McCarthy singing, with Patrice harmonizing, has gone viral.
You can learn the lyrics to "The Rattlin' Bog" for your own wedding if you like.  (via reddit)

A Surprise Guest at a Shire Wedding

Hobbiton is the original location of The Shire in The Lord of the Rings movies, meaning that's where those scenes were filmed. The movie sets were preserved, and the area is now a pilgrimage destination for fans. It is also a popular venue for weddings. Sharik and Jess Burgess-Stride are both LOTR fans, and held their wedding at Hobbiton just a few days ago. All the guests were wearing Shire attire. Elijah Wood, who played Frodo, was not.

When photographer Cath Ullyett saw Wood walking nearby with his family, she rushed to invite him. Wood was hesitant, not wanting to invade the couples' privacy, but the photographer knew it would thrill them. So Wood ran up to greet the happy couple and pose for a few photos.

It was the first time a cast member had been to any of the many weddings held at Hobbiton over the last twenty years. The bride and groom were ecstatic. (via Geeks Are Sexy

Wedding Confession

A best man's speech can be fraught even if it's your brother giving it, because you never know what he's going to say. At this wedding, captured by Tali Joy Photography, Mark's little brother is the best man. The speech is intended as a thank you for taking the fall for the younger brother's frustrated screwup twenty years ago when they were young boys. However, the twist is that the groom had no idea what really went on all those years ago, and why he was in trouble. The look on his face when he realizes what really happened is priceless! Yet this was the perfect time to set the record straight, since the statute of limitations has surely passed. A good time was had by all. (via Laughing Squid)

Wedding Haka

Benjamin Armstrong’s family and friends surprised him and his bride Aaliyah with a haka at their wedding reception in Aukland, New Zealand, last week. Aaliyah was moved to tears by the performance. After Benjamin and one of the bridesmaids joined in, the bride did, too. Josh Starks gave us a little background in the comments:
This Haka is called Tika Tonu. It is a Maori haka and was written in the Hawkes Bay, New Zealand in 1914 by a chief named Waimarama Puhara. He wrote it for his son and it is about the transition from boy to man.
The lyrics and translation are in the description of another YouTube video. (via Boing Boing)

The Best Man's Speech

R.J. Devlin was only eleven years old when he gave this speech at his uncle's wedding. It's perfect. The content is short, sweet, and funny, with the humor coming from the absurdity of his age, and ends with a great punch line. His delivery and timing is spot-on, and he has confidence way beyond his years. But instead of becoming a standup comedian, R.J. grew up to be a singer and songwriter. (via reddit)

100 Years of Wedding Dresses in 3 Minutes

Mode brings us another 100 Years of Fashion video, this time for bridal gowns. If I had to pick one, I’d go with 1925, with 1915 as my second choice. The 1955 gown looks just like my mother’s wedding dress, except hers was blue. The 1975 gown looks like what I wore to the prom that year. (via Buzzfeed)
