SaveAFox Rescue took in a group of young fox kits from a rescue operation at a fur farm. Some will be staying there permanently, while others will be sent to various fox shelters across the country. They recently introduced the kits to the other foxes in their playground enclosure. At first, Finnegan and Dixie didn't want to have anything to do with the kits, but the female foxes Floofala and Serafina were more friendly, and became instant foster mothers! It wasn't long before they were all having fun together. (via Laughing Squid)

The accompanying text, as well as the SaveAFox site, says these are captive-bred foxes that come from sources such as fur farms. Now comes the ethical question ... if we as a society will allow farms that raise cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, bison, and emus, among other critters, as well as 'manage' fish, deer, and other wildlife so that they may be 'harvested' by licensed sportsmen as food or for their wool or hides (where do you think leather comes from?), why is it so abhorrent to raise critters like fox, mink, or other fur-bearers for the same reason?
Sure, fur coats may be impractical and expensive, but so are designer handbags, Air Jordan and other 'athletic' shoes, and 700-hp cars sold to the general public. Yet we allow those.

Leather is a byproduct of from animals we eat. But even animals we eat should not be raised in conditions that are so bad that mothers bite their babies tails off, as happened to some of these kits.
