Dolly Parton, Rockstar

When Dolly Parton was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year, she initially refused the honor, but public pressure caused her to relent. She then speculated that she would do a rock and roll album, and call it Rockstar. Now that pledge has come true. Dolly Parton's Rockstar will be released on November 17. The album features nine original songs among its 30 tracks. Parton enlisted a Who's Who of stars to play on it, including McCartney, Ringo Starr, Elton John, Sting, Stevie Nicks, Steve Perry, Steven Tyler, Peter Frampton, and a long list of others. The covers include rock classics such as "Free Bird," "Purple Rain" and "Stairway to Heaven." Parton performed the first single from the album, "World on Fire" at the Academy of Country Music Awards ceremony Thursday night, which she hosted along with Garth Brooks. (via Metafilter)
