The Turntable Paradox

I had never heard of the Turntable Paradox until just now, but it makes me want to search through the basement for a working turntable and a billiard ball. Steve Mould explains how a solid ball set on a turntable will just roll along and chill for quite some time before eventually leaving off the side. Other objects are affected by centripetal force and get slung off pretty quickly. What's going on here? Mould explains the physic Behind the Turntable Paradox, but it still looks like magic to me.
