Two things. 1. The episode of Futurama where Fry spends his war profit money on 100 cups of coffee. Here's an excerpt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIxtbmXjIf0

2. Your kidneys can only dispense about a quart of water per hour. From Healthline.com: "When you drink too much water, it can cause hyponatremia, which happens when your blood sodium concentration becomes very low. If you drink more water than your kidneys can flush out, it’ll dilute the sodium in your bloodstream, causing cells to swell." Coffee is water with a few molecules of color and flavor in it, and 157 cups is almost 40 gallons. In six hours. Unless Mr. Baker and Mr. Harriger were spewing water constantly from several orifices at once and not just the normal one, they would have died for sure from brain swelling or a heart attack or both. Even Mrs. May was in grave danger. I don't think the newspaper article is an accurate account. I think somebody added to the story for fun, or made it up out of whole cloth.

Not to mention you can overdose and even die from too much caffeine. It takes a lot but 157 cups is probably more than enough.

The article said that each cup was 8oz, or one cup. A gallon is 128oz, or 16 cups per gallon. 157 cups would be 3 cups shy of 10 gallons, not 40. Still, too much!
