Ah, maybe you assumed too much there! "That thing we all do" has to be admitted to by a critical number of people before you know that we "all" do it. Even if the overwhelming majority do it, some are going to be grossed out anyway. Who knows? Maybe they do it, too, but since they aren't the ones admitting it, they can act as if they don't.
