I've never been in a Tesla, so this is second-hand information, BUT ...
Apparently the front doors are simple to open mechanically.
The release handle is in the usual/expected area - pull on it normally and it activates the electronic latch, then pull the handle further to activate the mechanical latch.
If it's true that someone had to break a window to free a driver, it would have been the same as any car with a locked door and the driver was somehow incapacitated and needed to be freed. The electronic latch had nothing to do with it ... pull on the inside handle and the door opens mechanically as it would in any other car.

I'm all for calling out irresponsible companies with unsafe products. But this is unnecessarily alarmist and misleading.

I got the same story from an owner. Opening the door electrically lets the window retract a little out of the rubber seal. This is a common feature with frameless door windows. Even my 2006 Chevy truck has it. The door can easily be opened at any time with the mechanical handle, and Tesla software recently changed to have the glass retract with the mechanical handle, but at no time not allow the door to be opened at will.

Why did 911 send a cement truck ?

Were they going to encase the car in concrete ?

When Tesla cars burn, do they give off a musky smell ?
