Freaky Flowers

I have fallen in love with cactuses (or cacti if you prefer) over the last couple of years. It's a glorious surprise when one unexpectedly blooms. The flowers can last for as little as an hour or as long as a month, depending on the species, and it seems that the biggest flowers fade the fastest. While I try to enjoy them as much as possible, I feel sad that they have virtually no chance for fertilization. This mesmerizing time-lapse video shows the blooming of echinopsis cacti in various colors. Read how Greg Krehel got this footage at vimeo. (via Boing Boing

He said ho used photoshop to tone DOWN every one of those blooms by at least 10%.
Wow, every bloom is like watching a young girl opening her bathrobe.

There are several cactus species that are rare or even extinct in the wild, but common in people's houses, such as the endangered Golden Barrel Cactus.

Considering that the plants are in effect exposing their "naughty bits", Bruce, your comment – although cringe-worthy – is surprisingly accurate.
