A Musical Tribute to Mel Brooks

There will never be another Mel Brooks. The EGOT winner got away with a lot because he was as funny as they come. He ridiculed bigotry, and never punched down. This tribute is from the Kennedy Center Honors in 2009. Mel Brooks is now 95 years old, and possibly retired.

Mel Brooks is amazing. He learned how to play the drums (taught by Buddy Rich), and he served in WW II, defusing land mines. He was in the Battle of the Bulge. Three of his movies are in the AFI top twenty comedy movies of all time. I doubt that he could make a movie like Blazing Saddles today.

Norman Lear celebrated his 99th birthday on July 27th. He certainly did his fair share of ridiculing bigotry and ignorance.
