There is no such thing as a 'standard comma'. There is merely the Oxford comma. Anything else is improper usage.
The famous, if apocryphal, example of the wrongness of the "standard" comma comes from the dedication at the front of a book:I'd like to thank my parents, Ayn Rand and God.
I am a lifelong fan of the Oxford comma. And I am a fan of consistency.
