A Short History of the Apple

In September, thoughts turn to different seasonal foods. As the tomato prices start to climb and the garden peters out, we look forward to a winter of turkey, pumpkin, and sweets. But in between, apples are abundant, ripe, and delicious. Read how the apple came to be that way in an article I wrote for mental_floss.

The garden is petering out? But we haven't seen the salsa post yet. Did I miss the salsa post? How many jars this year?

I'm not making salsa this year, because I barely had enough tomatoes for just tomato canning (and I still have some salsa from last year). I got several dozen jars of beans and only about two dozen pints of tomatoes. Too much rain, I think.
