Who Gets the Royalties for Hitler's Book?
Adolf Hitler’s book Mein Kampf entered the public domain at the beginning of 2016. But Hitler’s been dead for 70 years already! Who was profiting from the book’s publication all those years? And who will profit now that anyone can use it? And why would anyone want to?
According to Simon from Today I Found Out, Hitler himself made a boatload of money from the volume. After his death, the financial arrangements regarding Mein Kampf got more complicated. Read more about it at Today I Found Out. (Thanks, Daven!)

100 Years of Workout Style
The newest edition of the Mode 100 Years series shows us what women wore to exercise in over the past century. The model is YouTube fitness vlogger Cassey Ho. It’s not just a fashion video, either: Ho demonstrates what was considered a “workout” in those bygone decades.
We may laugh now, but 100 years ago, household chores meant heavy lifting, transportation meant walking, and “fitness” was something people rarely had time for anyway. As real life got easier, we had to adjust our recreation to fill in the physical fitness gap. Most of us don’t exercise enough even now. (via Tastefully Offensive)
Donald Trump Doesn't Like The Microphone in Pensacola
Trump had some problems with the microphone at Wednesday’s rally in Pensacola. Someone must pay! Okay, so who is going to get stiffed on trump’s orders? Will it be the people who inadequately wired the building years ago, the rally organizer who set the equipment budget, or the poor working stiff who set it up as best he could? Honestly, the setup may well have been done by unpaid campaign volunteers, but apparently people love his determination to blame someone for it and to make sure they are punished. Star Wars: The Force Awakens VFX Reel
Watch a demonstration of the visual effects work in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but only if you’ve seen the movie, since there are plot points revealed here. I would suggest watching it in full-screen mode, since it's shown mostly in split screen.
The Force Awakens has been nominated for five Academy Awards, all in technical categories. The lack of pre-release viewing for critics may have contributed to the film receiving no major nominations for acting or directing, but it's up for Oscars in Film Editing, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Visual Effects, and Original Score. And deservedly so. Still, there's no guarantee of winning. Mad Max: Fury Road received ten nominations, in many of the same categories (plus Best Picture and Best Director), and the technical aspects of that movie were quite stunning. (via io9)

17 Movie Posters From Your_Post_As_A_Movie
Among the many novelty reddit accounts, Your_Post_As_A_Movie stands out as a delight. On the subreddit r/pics (one of the default forums non-members see when they go to the main page), Your_Post_As_A_Movie selects photos or other images that users have posted to make into a fake movie poster. The pictures range from lovely landscapes to funny observances and even family snapshots, but with a eye for design and Photoshop skills, plus credits and an appropriate title, they get transformed into a feature film. And they appear seemingly instantly. Check out a selection of those movie posters in a list I posted at mental_floss.

Korean Girls Try American BBQ
It has been said that there is no true American cuisine, because everything we cook comes from somewhere else. That may be true, but we have a tendency to take recipes from all over the world and change them to make them our own. That’s especially true of barbecue, which is now truly American. In this video, young women in Korea try American barbecue for the first time, in three modes: pulled pork, brisket, and ribs. I did not expect to enjoy this video as much as I did. Now I’m hungry. For a pulled pork barbecue sandwich. (via Viral Viral Videos)
Cleaning a House with Chemicals
This scene is from a Norwegian TV show called Ikke gjør dette hjemme (Never Ever Do This at Home). It seems to be an apt title. The premise of this excerpt is that they are cleaning a stairway in the house with chemicals. Specifically, hydrogen peroxide, potassium iodide, and soap. You might know this as the recipe for Elephant Toothpaste. The Norwegian term for elephant toothpaste is foam troll. In that “experiment,” you use small amounts of the ingredients, whereas the guys in the show use barrels. And gasoline. A YouTube commenter quipped that the whole idea was to get the fire brigade out to clean the house with their hoses. You can see the entire episode here. The description, run through machine translation, is no help at all. Still, I’d watch a TV show with a cast named Roar, Morten, Rune, and Thorfinn. (via reddit)

1932: U.S. Army Kicks U.S. Veterans Out of Washington
In 1932, thousands of American veterans suffering from the poverty and unemployment of the Great Depression descended on Washington, D.C. to demand compensation for their service in World War I. Their two-month demonstration did not end peacefully. Read about it and see photographs of the incident in an article I wrote for mental_floss.
