Bred and born in the U.K. you'd think me predispositioned to like soccer.
But every time I tried to watch it some player got his shirt sleeve slightly touched by another players shirt sleeve and so he fell down in apparently excruciating pain, holding his left leg down by the shin, and like any good method actor his mouth was contorted in a parody of Edvard Munch's most famous painting.
Then, years later, I am plonked unwillingly in the antipodes, and forced by social pressures to watch rugby, and with my enforced globe trotting flavoured reluctance to accept the new norm, I resisted any enjoyment of such for many years.
But now I enjoy watching better built blokes than myself battle, unpadded, unhelmeted, against each other, in an attempt to put a funny shaped ball down on the ground on the other side of a painted line on the grass.
Sounds a bit weird when you look at it logically, but basically it is a reflection of how us humans took over other lands ... maybe even a facsimile of how religions forced their chosen gods onto other people, tribes, cavemen ... who was the first god ? was it Ra ?
He was the one with the sunny disposition, right !
Funny how the vast majority of gods are male.
Wonder if they prefer rugby over soccer .... ooh, how about that thing the Americans play ... is it called grid iron ? if so, why ?
Hard for me not to say something about pussies wearing padded pyjamas and funny coloured helmets with some form of grid like grille in the front of it.
But I won't, because I am polite.
