We all know what bubble gum flavor is. We all know what it tastes like. But how do we explain that taste to someone who's never tasted it? We might try to compare it to natural ingredients, but that would be rather difficult. Like everything else these days, it's made with artificial flavors. But what flavors? Weird History looks into bubble gum flavor, what's in it, and how it came about. That, of course, means including the history of gum and bubble gum, which is less than 100 years old. It's still pretty interesting, but if you want to learn about the flavoring only, you'll need to skip to about nine minutes into this video. If you watch the whole thing, you'll know everything there is to know about bubble gum.

I haven't seen the video yet, but I have a vague memory of searching on a childhood memory of a flavor, "tooty fruity" (with multiple spellings), and finding (maybe even in Wikipedia) that it was, essentially, a term of art that meant "it has a fruit-like flavor, but not a specific fruit" because, if it were specific, it would be "cherry," or "strawberry," flavor.
It then mentioned that this was the typical flavor of bubblegum, which felt like some weird sort of gustatory epiphany.
