I had to argue with Mr Ofgang (who wrote about the steerable one-man dirigible in the Smithsonian article). He stated that "The first heavier-than-air flight... only took place in 1903." But that's not right.

As I said to him, I think the Wright brothers had the first controlled, powered, extended, manned flight, but I might be leaving out an adjective or two.
