Me thinks the people of the USA do not realise that 'the government' means 'the people', the government is just the collective of the people, you know, the community ensuring that social standards are met. Like being against paying taxes ... how silly is that ? You want chools for your children, police forces to protect you from baddies, fire brigades, defence force against big baddies ??? all that stuff ? Can you pay for it yourself, all by your lonesome ? No, so you get together with your neighbours and your cousins and maybe that bloke that moved here from India 22 years ago, and you all chuck money into the pot. In my weird country that social 'bank' paid for my heart operation, didn't cost me a cent, it also paid me a living wage while I recuperated .... I did have to pay $98 for the ambulance trip though, but seeing as that was an hour and 5 minutes it wasn't too bad. Taxes take nearly 20% of my income, plus then there is rates (property tax) and tax on purchases like food and petrol (the liquid you guys call a gas, lol) all in all I pay out a fair bit of money, but it means my heart op didn't cost me $195,000, and if the guy across the road has to spend time in hospital it won't cost him anything either (unless he goes by ambulance). Learn to love your government. Imagine life without it.
No, we call it gasoline, a term which originated with "you guys." And since it is the vapors (i.e. gas) which, along with a spark, causes the explosion in an internal combustion engine, it is an apt term.

This is the earliest occurrence of the word to have been found. Cassell discovered that a shopkeeper in Dublin named Samuel Boyd was selling counterfeit cazeline and wrote to him to ask him to stop. Boyd did not reply and changed every ‘C’ into a ‘G’, thus coining the word "gazeline". The Oxford English Dictionary dates its first recorded use to 1863 when it was spelled "gasolene". "
