Gimme Some Lovin'

The first time I ever saw my husband, the one who died in 2004, he was on stage playing the bass line of this song. Well, come to think of it, it was less a stage than a gym floor. He was about 17 and I was in eighth grade. That was about 1971 or so. We didn't date until a few years later. This video is of the Spencer Davis Group, featuring 18-year-old Stevie Winwood on vocals.

No disrespect to your late spouse intended, but it's that Hammond organ that makes that song. Even better would have been to pump it through a classic Leslie speaker.

Your comment reminded me of the last time I saw a Hammond/Leslie setup. It was The Turtles at a local festival. Had to be before 2006, as I was still a DJ. I was asked at the last minute to introduce them, and this is what they wanted me to say: "They aren't mutant, they aren't ninjas, and they CERTAINLY aren't teenagers, but they are... The Turtles!"

I thought, man, even their opening joke is on the oldies circuit.
