The "true crime" story was interesting, but one detail is too bizarre to be true. There is no way a pub in an outback town of 12 people had manatees in their menagerie!

Did the writer want to add colour to the story? If so, he might perhaps have wanted to give that idea a bit more thought. What would be required to house and feed huge marine animals that are not even found in this part of the world? (We do have the related dugongs, but you couldn't keep them in the outback either).

Or was "manatees" a typo? News stories about the pub mention crocs, snakes, sugar gliders and 600 birds, but I'm at a loss to think of any bird that a spell-checker might correct to "manatee".

A pub full of outback alcoholics probably has a few man-titties. Perhaps that's what they meant.
