It's a tough question, I can see lawmakers wanting to prevent boys from taking over and ruining girls sports. I can also see this man's point. Can there be an answer to please everyone?

Yes, there is an answer.  It's found in Genesis 1:26-27.

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

Unless you want to stand up and say that PEOPLE and their thoughts, actions, and feelings are infallible and that GOD makes mistakes.

Why did you choose that particular magical book of children's stories about the origin of the universe and the purpose of people, Bicycle Bill? You know, there are plenty of other books and stories of other gods and goddesses and so on, and other ways to live and other behavior to care about than the story you like. And the people who believe in them do so for the same reason you believe in yours. You can't all be right, and you can all be wrong. Your particular interpretation of the meaning of the many times re-edited and re-translated so-called Bible is questionable in direct proportion to how sure you are that you are right. Strict Bible believers are even more of a mess of contradictions than the Bible itself. For example, if telling someone that the creator of the vast and ancient universe has instructed them to wear the clothing style /you/ want them to wear is not taking the name of the Lord in vain, then wow, what is?

And if not that, then here:
Pixar: Float.

Powerful, honest testimony that puts people and reality above outdated, oppressive dogma and hate.

Marco McLean, would letting that kid in Float join the High School track team be fair to all the others? That's the problem the legislators in the OP video were facing. They were also probably facing the ire of parents(voters).

1. Well said.

2. Moving.

3. The Bill's been pulled and voting postponed.

4. "So-Called Bible" ? I dunno about that.

5. "Float" is a great video and good for
teaching, but the kid in it is a mutant
not an everyday normal transgender so of
course he wouldn't be allowed on a track team.

6. Seems to me that transgenderism is where
homosexuality was 30-40 years back. Not
enough people "get it" yet.

A kid born a boy should not be on girl's teams competing.

For instance, the fastest American woman in the 100-meter dash, the late Florence Griffith Joyner, has a record of 10.49 seconds; the fastest high school boy's record is 9.98 seconds.

Also, look what is happening in Connecticut. Several high school girls are suing since former boys are competing and making state records that girls can't even touch. Now those girls probably will not get any athletic scholarships so college is likely out of reach for them.

If transgenders want to compete, set up their own leagues.

Connecticut is an example of how there is no uniform policy at the high school level on how to address this issue. Schools at the forefront haven't thought through all the ramifications. Transgender girls should be allowed to compete, but their results are separate and don't effect the standings. That's the trade-off for acceptance. The reason is the hormone therapy they will undergo which would level the playing field. That therapy can't begin until after puberty and will ultimately be followed by sex-reassignment surgery.

Only 2 genders....the rest are pretend

Jim said...

RB, there are, in fact, more than 2 genders (although I think you might mean sex). there are a large group of people who are neither male, nor female, but somewhere in between. Our sex is determined by our external and internal genitals, our hormones and our chromosomes. but intersex people have features of both sexes, so for instance in one condition, outwardly a person appears female, but they are in fact chromosomally male (XY not XX), but their bodies don't react to male hormones, so they develop as girls, but still have testes and often do not know that they have this condition until they don't have periods (complete androgen insensitivity syndrome). This is just one of a myriad of conditions, such as people who have XXY XYY or XXXX chromosomes or produce more male hormones than most women or have ambiguous genitals, or even people who are born girls and change into boys at puberty. Even in terms of gender, there is a large spectrum of gendered behaviour and often what is considered male or female appropriate behaviour is determined by culture and how society is structured rather than some innate sense of masculine or feminine. If a boy want to do girl stuff or a girl wants to do boy stuff, then let them.

Exactly my point.  If Danica Patrick or Shirley Muldowney wants to do "boy stuff" like race cars, or if Scott Hamilton or Mikhail Baryshnikov wants to do "girl stuff" (figure skate or dance ballet), that doesn't automatically make them some other weird, mystical, as-yet-undefined 'gender'. They are just men or women doing whatever they want to do just because they want to do it.
