Where a highway goes down a mountain, you'll see emergency ramps for trucks with brake failure -which happens more often than you think. There are plenty of these in my neck of the woods, but they aren't nearly as fancy and well-maintained as this one in Brazil. (via reddit)

Was kind of interesting to see them set up an overhead crane system to lift the truck out of the catch-lane rather than try to drag it back with a big-rig wrecker and winch.

Interesting. The sand is such a clever idea.
They lift the truck out then what, it still has no brakes.
Then they can have a second tractor come and take over the trailers (if they didn't sustain any damage themselves and are safe to move), and transport the disabled tractor by either fastening it to a big-rig tow truck or dragging it onto a low-boy trailer for removal to a repair site.
