The Lion Dance

The Lunar New Year begins on Friday, February 12 this year. The Lion Dance is a traditional part of the festivities in China. If you've ever wondered what the dancers look like underneath the lion costume, watch these two guys. Their dance looks pretty straightforward until... Well, just watch and you'll see something truly amazing. (via Nag on the Lake)

We have a large Asian community here in Edmonton, so we are lucky enough to see Lion Dances all the time at the Lunar New Year celebrations. It takes enormous skill, strength and athleticism for those young men to perform it well. If you are able to touch the Lion as it dances by, it guarantees you Luck for the upcoming year!

I had to see what the real thing looked like. I'd never seen a Lion Dance where they jumped onto things. It's amazing. Go to YouTube and search for Lion Dance competition. It's harder with the costume on! How do they see? A
