Betty Furness promotes electrical appliances and utility systems in the mid-50s. It’s much more complicated than it needs to be, but we didn’t really know that until we got transistors and microchips. Still, many of these things made no sense even at the time. Why tout how clean electric heat is when you’re going to burn charcoal in the living room anyway? I’m sure the kids just loved having their rooms combined during the day. And is there any practical reason to have doors on both sides of a refrigerator? (via Metafilter)
