Ten Years

When you survive cancer, every year is a milestone. At xkcd, we followed Randall Munroe's fiancé (now wife) Megan as she battled stage III breast cancer, and now it's been ten glorious years. Or at least I followed it; the most memorable comic I recall is this one. You'll find more links at Laughing Squid.

I am going thru chemo for Stage III ovarian cancer. My son and I have shared a love of xkcd for many years. We each emailed this to
each other yesterday. He wrote the loveliest thing: we'll revist this in 10 years.
God I love that boy.

No matter what the prognosis, it's an educated guess, and only a guess. So don't give up, don't quit living, don't quit laughing.

That one brought tears to my eyes.

I wish they would all turn out this well.

This summer, I hit the 17-year milestone for breast cancer survival. Sending love and good wishes to all who are in the fight (and we are ALL in that fight)!

Miss C, thanks for posting this. I like xkcd but do not read it regularly and so was not aware of the real-world situation.

MrsB, best wishes for you. But review the panel that starts "When they estimated your survival odds". :-D

Snowman, considering that's she's gone outside the viewing platform and out onto a rock to take a photo of some sort of gi-normous lizard/alligator/komodo dragon, and the panel before that shows her engaged in free-climbing a rock cliff, that was just Randall's way of saying, "Don't sweat the cancer; you'll find some other way to kill yourself long before it gets the chance!"
