Too many women replicate the self-sacrifice in "The Promise." And it usually is women who suffer as caregivers because men age and die first. Families should never, in my opinion, try to provide nursing home care at home. It's a recipe for disaster.

The Promise is heart wrenching. I've seen it happen in my family.

It is women who more often suffer as caregivers because they not only take care of their husbands, but also their mothers, mothers-in-law, grandmothers, and grandmothers-in-law. I've done all those.
