Dangerous Victorian Staircases

I watched Beetlejuice again during the Halloween season, and was struck by the way Geena Davis had to run down the stairs, with her feet held sideways. She is six feet tall, and no doubt has feet to match, but the stairs of the old Victorian house had dangerously narrow steps. This video shows us how stairs were built for the room they had instead of to a standardized code for a long, long time. My grandparents' home had a dangerously steep staircase, too, which scared me as a child. Steep stairs and narrow stairs are dangerous, but inconsistent stairs can be killers, too. (via TYWKIWDBI)
