Irises

Since my irises have faded, Princess remembered that she took some pictures a couple of weeks ago that she forgot to send to me. Now I have them, and I can enjoy my irises until they bloom again next year! But this border garden isn't just irises. There were daffodils in March and tulips in April. The lilies will bloom soon, and then the daylilies and then the hollyhocks. After my vegetable garden is set, I will till another row of lawn to plant more flowers. More flowers, less mowing!

My grandmother planted irises when she moved into her in 1957. I now live in the same house and the irises still bloom.

These are all descended from a dozen or so plants that came with the house. They may have been there for decades! But now they are rather happy and spread gloriously. I take the overflow to my Mom's house.

My irises are only a few inches up. Got two e-mails yesterday from the local garden shops I support - one was a frost warning, the other was a note that their tropical plants were in. Springtime in Maine.
