I'm Spartacus

Kirk Douglas, who played Spartacus, passed away Wednesday at the age of 103. It's a fitting time to revisit the inspiring scene from the 1960 Stanley Kubrick film Spartacus. It's the classic example of a group committed enough to lay their lives on the line, so much that their solidarity wins the day.

The first Douglas film that I remember was The Vikings. Tony Curtis was in that one, too. It was a bit violent for someone of my tender years, but the scenery was beautiful.

My love for movies originated from Spartacus. I was very
young when I saw it at the drive-in with my parents. Back
then they'd show some kid's stuff after which my sister
and I were expected to go sleep on the back seat. Not me.
I watched it enthralled - sitting on the seat edge looking
between my parents. Really strong memory of that.
