Every Best Visual Effects Winner Ever
Andy Schneider and Jonathan Britnell of Burger Fiction put together a supercut of every movie that won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, starting in 1938. That year, it was called “outstanding achievement in creating special photographic and sound effects.” Starting in 1939, it was just Award for Special Effects, and included sound effects. Since 1963, the award became Best Visual Effects. In 1973, the Oscar in that category was not awarded, but otherwise, all the movies are here. I bet you’ve seen most of them.
Seeing them all together, it’s pretty evident that Hollywood, and movie audiences, just love explosions and destruction. The nominees for this year’s Oscar for Best Visual Effects are Ex Machina, The Martian, The Revenant, Mad Max: Fury Road, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The Academy Awards will be presented Sunday, February 27. (via Uproxx)
