This short film can stand alone, but it will mean more to those who have seen the film Gravity. Gravity director Alfonso Cuaron's son Jonas made a short film showing what was happening on the other end of Sandra Bullock's distress call from space (the father and son team wrote the screenplay for Gravity together).

Aningaaq is the name of the Inuit man in Greenland who intercepted the radio signal. He doesn't understand English, and assumes that the caller's name is Mayday. And he's dealing with problems of his own. Aningaaq was intended as a featurette, but has been submitted for an Academy Award in the live-action short film category. (via The Week)
