Love the math puns, but a more likely explanation is that by intentionally misspelling it, they avoid being hit with a copyright/trademark violation lawsuit from the powers-that-be that are behind the REAL "Dark Angel" character.
Although it could just be that most people these days simply can't spell worth a damn.
My mother has a lighter which has a very bad picture of an angel on it, with the saying, "ANGLE OF MERCY WATCH OVER ME."
It was the first item in her collection of typoed inspirational glurge". She has a door hanger that says, "We can't all be stars, but we can't all twinkle." I bought her a wall hanging that says, "Friends are God's way of taking godd care of us." My sister got her a cube for your desk which has quotes about hiking on all six sides, one of which is "No all who wander are lost."
