Derby the Dog: Running on 3D Printed Prosthetics

Derby was born with malformed front legs, and couldn’t run as a dog should. He was sent to a shelter where he would have been euthanized, but was taken in by Peace and Paws Rescue instead. He went to a foster home and then to a permanent home. Along the way, he got wheels, but the real story is when 3D Systems got involved in making prosthetic legs for Derby. They are custom-designed to fit onto his elbows, and wheel-shaped to keep him from getting stuck in a hole or tripped up by small obstacles. See more pictures at Derby's Facebook page. Derby didn't have time to feel self pity, too busy being dog.
