So like I'm thinking I'm an idiot because I can't make sense out of the "correct" answer.
One 'cut' takes 10 minutes. It takes 2 'cuts' to make 3 pieces --- so 2 cuts x 10 minutes / cut = 20 minutes
DWVR, the teacher is thinking of the number of pieces, instead of the number of cuts.
The problem is underdefined. The cuts are not specified to have the same length.
