Moon Mistakes

Have you ever looked at a drawing or other depiction of the moon and laughed? That most likely happened when you see a crescent moon with stars visible inside. That's impossible, but it is only the beginning of the many ways you can screw up a picture of the moon. Once you get away from the more common mistakes, we get into moon mistakes that you were not even aware of until now. How the crescent moon is angled depends on where on earth you live. That explains why the angle of the moon is different on the many national flags it appears on. If you are out in the African savanna, the moon does not look the way it is depicted in The Lion King. Still, if it had been correct, that's what people would have been talking about after seeing it instead of what a great movie it was. (via Geeks Are Sexy

Not to pick on this video, but a constant quickfire stream of information comes across like staccato morse code, and in the video here, all I get is something about a gibbon, which I think is a type of monkey, but then it could be an ape.

Then that remainds me of the song 'I am an Apeman' by the Kinks, and thinking about the Kinks I then think about Lola (yes the song first) who was my second girlfriend, which in turn reminds me of my FIRST girlfriend, and her name was Nolene G*******, and she was from America, complete with a California accent ... I think it was Californian, excuse me, but it was 55 years ago and a lot of bridges have been underpassed by water since then. She is most likely a grandma now, least I hope so.

Be good if the commentators took longer pauses, I am not slow of mind, but still have a need to allocate brain places for each fact.

This was fascinating and useful because I live in Michigan about 45 north latitude, but I help support a school in Uganda, within a hundred miles from the equator. I've visited twice and it is exceedingly strange that at noon the sun is almost 90 degrees up in the sky, like a lightbulb in a room.

The next time I go I will be very curious to see if the moon is a cup of light with its bowl horizontal to the ground.

What's also strange is that they have almost no change in the length of day around the year. The sun rises at 7 and sets at 7 every day all year long. I told someone there that where I lived, days are longer or shorter in different parts of the year, and they almost didn't believe me.

"Almost?" I wouldn't believe you at all if that's what I was used to. Sounds like a tall tale, days being longer and shorter! That said, "the moon is a cup of light" is very poetic.
