CBS is ending The Late Show with Stephen Colbert next year. One day you are nominated for an Emmy, the next day you are collateral damage in a company merger and a lawsuit by the president.

Hmm.. Sorry, but Trump didn't kill The Late Show, even if he tries to take credit. The merger? Makes for a good excuse, err.. reason. Late night TV is dying. Broadcast TV is already half-dead. More than that probably. Production costs which include live bands are through the roof. The Tonight Show has been down to four nights for awhile now. Nobody is watching, the humor is geared to those who aren't watching, and the shows are just an advertisement for some star's current project. This is just the first shot marking the end of an era methinks. Oh well.

Happy Friday Miss C!

I do not agree. As a distant observer from Bavaria, I might not have detailed insights into the US- and global mediabusiness. But dropping Mr. Stephen stinks IMHO.

Sure, Late Night is costly; but it has always been.
Sure, Late Night is partially guests promoting; but it has always been, and especially at Colbert's, that was never a predominant point.
Sure, live bands are'nt cheap; but they never have been, and that's a part that could easily be economized separatly.

The very point in time when Paramount CBS announced the drop of The Late show with Stephen Colbert is a clear indication of causality, and not coincidence.

-chuckle- The annual production cost of The Late Show is $100 million. Colbert's annual salary is $20 million. The show is losing $40 million/year. You want causality, there it is. Colbert will do fine though - the Trumpster just gave him a big beautiful tax break. Oh, the irony!
