The BBC pulled off what is possibly the greatest April Fool's Day prank ever in 1957 when they aired a report on the spaghetti harvest in Switzerland. At the time, pasta was not all that common in Britain, and a lot of people believed it. Read more about the prank here.

Fortunately, someone at the BBC was wise enough to retain a copy of the video: 1957: The SPAGHETTI HARVEST
Of course, as everyone knows (and as was reported on A Prairie Home Companion years ago), spaghetti is actually grown in North Dakota, in great spaghetti fields that are 10 miles long and 3/4 of an inch wide.
