President Trump has levied tariffs on all the countries of the world (except Russia), and that includes places that have no exports, or even people. Heard Island and McDonald Islands were specifically mentioned, even though they are only populated by penguins. Sounds like an important subject for a nature documentary. (via Nag on the Lake)

I liked it when they toppled the TV into the sea!
The brilliant theory behind the tariffs is to eliminate trade deficits, so, we get something from the Island Of The Penguins (maybe the odd Hoboken penguin) that we spend money on, but the penguins don't, in tern (sorry), buy anything from us. So we're raising our tariffs on goods sourced from them, making them more expensive, until they start Buying American! Except, I don't think we export large quantities of fresh herring... and, I don't think they have money... but other than that, it's a fine idea!
