I LOVE tiger tail ice cream! It's also just called tiger ice cream, or sometimes tiger tiger. I had some just this summer but it was disappointing -- the orange flavour and the licorice flavour weren't strong enough. Really good tiger tail just hits you right in the face.
Love licorice and that ice cream looks awesome. Finland makes some good strong licorice as does Italy and both will most definitely "hit you in the face." My experience with 'melting' licorice is dissolving it in alcohol (Licorice Liquor is to die for). For ice cream, I'm betting some good Italian licorice powder is the way to go.
