I don't know why it bugs me so much, Miss, but it does: Everywhere I've ever read that joke, it says, "or in a while." The line it refers to is "See you later, alligator." "After while, crocodile." It's after while, not in a while. Okay, I'm done now.

I remember it as "in a while crocodile" and I can't believe I am actually having this conversation 🙂

Eh, language changes. I always knew it as "after while," which means "after a while." But that's probably nonsensical to younger people.

It used to bother me how my kids would say "on accident." I would correct them, because it's "by accident." But we say "on purpose," so why would the preposition for the opposite be different? Keeping language the same as it was is a losing battle.
