Just based on my experience at that hotel on a weird night in 1986, I can state with all certainly that this sign demonstrates their sense of humor has measurably improved.
On the day of reckoning, a wise person takes out a little more cash than they need, squirrels some of it away in a safe place, tucks some into a fob pocket, and puts the remainder into the folds of her purse, or his wallet ... then we do not pay to extract our own money. Just as an aside, I used to have a purse, call it a man bag if you want, supple leather, and big enough for the new mobile phones, a wallet, cigarettes (it was a while ago) and car keys. Made me wonder how I could have managed without it. Well it, and me, went out of fashion, and these days i don't smoke, seldom take the phone with me (maybe on a long trip, just in case) and the keys are most often in the ignition, and my right pocket holds the cash and a credit card for unexpected costs above the cash. A slimmed down edition of me, even as I follow genetics and become the size of a silver back gorilla. The credit card is one where you have over a month to pay so as to avoid interest, and the annual charge is not charged because they make enough off me from a different account.
