Encyclopaedia Britannica Films produced this 1946 educational film to warn us about the signs that your community is sliding into despotism.
The two chief characteristics of despotism -- restricted respect and concentrated power -- are defined and illustrated. Two of the conditions which have historically promoted the growth of despotism are explained and exemplified. These are a slanted economic distribution and a strict control of the agencies of communication.(via Boing Boing)

I have been following your blog for years now. I’ve always enjoyed it even though I’m not a fan of cats. When you decided to step into the political arena, however, today will be the last day. I realize you won’t cry yourself to sleep tonight but you should have learned from recent history that if you try and push an agenda, the majority will turn against you.

I've been there (Italy here) not once but twice (with fascism, then with Berlusconi -our very own Trump before Trump- and now with our dearest Giorgia) so I know sooooo weel what's going to happen to you over there. I love that the guy who bailed because of the 'politics' drew the line because criticizing despotism was a bridge too far. Talk about telling on one's self.
I'm a bit confused, as I have never shied away from politics on this blog. Also, this post is a rerun from years ago.
Also, when has a warning against despotism "pushing an agenda"?

Looks like someone tried to push an agenda and the majority is turning against them. Buh-bye.
A propaganda film where the visuals are more about nazism and antisemitism. Poor economics too. Capitalism isn't the greatest but in a free society it remains the best we have, and before it degrades into despotism it will need to first be replaced by socialism.
I took a look at the YouTube comments from 7-8 years ago: "An erie resonance and perfect timing for today", along with the other usual comparisons to the Trumpster. But what about the previous four years?
