If you went to school in America, you most likely had to learn all the state capitals, but you probably didn’t learn much about them. The capital of Alaska, the city of Juneau, is bigger in area than the entire state of Delaware! That’s just one of 50 weird facts you never knew about the capital cities of each of the United States, presented by John Green in this mental_floss video. I think they really should have named Des Moines “Fort Raccoon” instead.
So true about Des Moines- it was founded where the Des Moines and Raccoon rivers joined. The fort ended up being Fort Des Moines, and it grew from there.
