The Worst Thing About Butterflies
Butterflies are beautiful, but they aren't here to please us, as Hank Green makes clear. He also mentions at the beginning that butterflies don't have weird, creepy tentacles, which turns out to be untrue. Have you ever heard of a "wafting organ"? That's the unscientific name for coremata, which are stinky butt tentacles you never expect to see on a butterfly. Female butterflies like them, and that's what matters to a male butterfly. Or moth, which is the go-to example here for some reason. I'm sure Minnesotastan knows more about this; he's the only butterfly expert I know.

Why Microwaves are All Alike
Which microwave is best? It's a trick question, because they are all made by the same manufacturer. While the features may vary between price points, knowing this as a consumer can help you be just as happy with a less expensive microwave. But that's not the point of the video, because microwaves are just one product, and many consumer products are made and sold the same way. It's about fixed expenses and economy of scale. But is it a good idea? Fewer manufacturers can lead to lower prices, but also to monopolies, in which there is no competition and the manufacturer can set any price they want. And in the worst case, a single malfunction can lead to shortages, as in baby formula.

Glenn and Robin took in a couple of wild turkey eggs that survived and hatched, and now they have two pet turkeys. But it's not all love and kisses. Turkeys have a rather intrusive way of showing affection, which involves pecking. The couple has had little luck civilizing the turkeys that were eventually named No and Stop It. The names make sense, because that's what they were saying to the birds all the time anyway! Glenn is more likely to be assaulted by the turkeys, so he's tried all kinds of schemes to keep them at arms length, including a hoop skirt!

Smile!
Borzah Yankey has a TikTok channel dedicated to making people smile. Yankey has been told he has an infectious smile ever since he was a kid. The Winnipeg, Manitoba, resident started posting smile videos on TikTok to give people a smile during the pandemic. The effect of his videos, particularly on babies, has sparked a TikTok challenge called “try not to smile.” It's pretty near impossible. Someone mentioned that the five seconds of black screen at the end was so that people can see their own faces reflected in their phone screen... smiling. (via reddit)
