Something Greater Than You

In the stop-motion animation Something Greater Than You, two raccoons find shelter from a winter storm in someone's basement. It's full of human junk to play with, and the owner is evidently a bird watcher, or rather was at some time in the past. Raccoons are pretty smart, and these have even figured out how to use a cassette player. They can't talk, but you know what they are thinking every minute. It seems like a pretty good setup, until they hear someone at the door. That's when you need to get a hankie ready.

Gordon LePage made this as a one-man project at his studio in Maine. The puppets are needle felted wool built over wooden or steel armatures for movement. It's easy to forget that and just consider them characters. (via the Awesomer)

Still on my first cappuccini so bit early for a tear full face.
But I will say a lot of videos out of the USA seem hellbent on feeding birds but disallowing squirrels and racoons any chance of staying alive.
To me it seems cruel, birds are well adapted, by evolution or god if you like, to flap their arms and fly off somewhere where food is, but ground living mammals have it so much harder, especially in winter.
And thats where the cruel Americans come out and post their videos of their attempts to starve the animals that lived on the land long before the two legged humans arrived .... you all cry "Save the American Indians" but not many of you seem in any way concerned about the poor wee four legged, warm blooded, INTELLIGENT, quadrupeds ... ok, said that bit twice ... the cute darlings who are trying to eke a living in the snow, ice, and freezing temperatures.

I'll watch the tear jerker racoon thing later
