USA has addresses on the IDs ? So if you lose it yours, any person could easily use it to do all sorts of criminal things ? Maybe even attempt assassination ... of you know who ?
Lol, imagine the surprise when the knock on the door came ... you look out and see 14 swat teams, many news helicopters, the local police's entire staff ...
... all there to make sure that you have a guard of honour to go get your medal from the new -non crazy- president.
