Don't know if it is so in your country, but here in mine I wonder why the tyres (we invented them, our word) for my car, 19 inch rims cost more than twice the price of tyres for 17, or 16 inch rims.
Forget for the minute the weird mix of old fashioned Imperial measurements, then new, easy, logical metric, and then mathematics ... my car takes 19 - 255 - 45 ... that is inches, then millimetres, then percentage ! Yeah, forget that.
Even if you take the rubber and steel needed for a 17 inch tyre, multiply it by pye-are2, you do not get anywhere near the explosion of cost that I need to cough up, should I need new rubber.
My 14 year old Italian car, considered by many to be the most beautiful production car ever made, does look good with its big wheels.
