The Odd Couple

Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau star in the 1968 movie The Odd Couple. I was only nine or ten when I saw this and found it funny enough to go back to the theater two or three times to see it again. Afterward, I made it a point to see every movie written by Neil Simon. When the TV show (starring Tony Randall and Jack Klugman) ran for five years, people forgot all about the movie, sort of like M*A*S*H.

The part where Oscar calls it spaghetti. Felix says, "Oscar, Oscar, Oscar. It's not spaghetti, it's linguini." And Oscar smashes his dish full of it against the wall and says, "Now it's gahh-bij!" Another part that stuck in my mind from the theater, then, is where they're in a restaurant, talking, and Felix goes, "FMAHH. FMAHH." Oscar says, "Felix, stop that. Felix, what are you doing?" Felix says, "I'm clearing my sinuses. FMAHH!" And the whole business with the Coo-coo Pigeon Sisters.
