The chickens 'scream' when his car bumper touches them which stops his bumper from crashing into the stoop instead. Some folk hang a tennis ball low enough from the roof at the point where when it touches the car windshield you know that is the point to stop so you don't hit the stoop or the wall in front of you. Considering how large American cars are these days it is not surprising that people are not easily able to gauge how much room they have in front of them while parking inside their garages, and so use whatever methods available to prevent damage to their vehicles. The screaming chickens are hilarious; both entertaining and useful.
Thanks for explaining the tennis ball. Are you saying the stoop is the back of the garage? I only knew the word as the steps in front of an apartment building.

I get the story, but some elements are confusing. A garage has a stoop? Hanging tennis ball? I'm a bit clueless because I've never had a garage.
