Cats Encounter Surströmming

I've read that cat food manufacturers have to walk a fine line between making food smelly enough to attract cats, but not smelly enough to make their owners sick when opening the can. Cats love smelly things, and what's stinkier than surströmming, the Swedish fermented fish famous for its strong smell? Viral internet videos make it clear that just opening the can make humans lose their lunch. Etiquette requires you do that outside.

This guy asked his cat Pusic, who I have called Russia's most pampered cat, and his year-old sister Mila if they would like some surströmming. The cats are curious, then excited, but will they eat it? The average house cat naturally loves fish, but fermented fish in a can is something outside their wheelhouse. Too bad we don't get to see the human's reaction.

Hard to believe Sweden, a modern country that lives for real in the 21st century, still produces cans that you need a tool to open ... like it is 1932
Even us, cast out about as far from other countries as you can be, and hence denied the quick importing of any new and modern device, have had ring pull cans since the late 80s ... and screw off beer bottle tops since the 90s.

Well, we Canucks also still use can openers to many canned goods in the 21st Century (except canned ham or sardines where keys are provided to roll open the tins), so I don't think your criterion for what is considered modern is correct.

Pop top cans are "modern," but they also add to the cost of he product. You can buy the cheaper beans if you have a can opener.

Who would want a can of Surstromming to be easy to open?
