The Austrian View of The Sound of Music

An immigrant from Germany who has been in the US a long time takes a look at why people from Austria never watch the 1965 musical The Sound of Music. This video is kind of long, but you can skip from 2:00 to 4:34 because that's an ad. The Hollywood version was a spectacular flop in Austria for several reasons. They already had the music Die Trapp-Familie, which I posted here a few months ago. And we learn how very Americanized the musical is. Rogers and Hammerstein, as well as the movie producers, took a lot of liberties not only with the story, but with the culture and geography of Salzburg and Europe as a whole.
