I have no doubt this sign is real. I've been to Rottnest Island near Perth, where it's drummed into tourists not to feed them except in designated areas. They are amazingly social and have no fear of humans. In fact, begging appears to be their principal way of making a living. The tour bus I was on had a stop where passengers could get off, photograph, and feed them. The quokkas know the schedule, and we found dozens waiting by the side of the road. Cute, but also a little bit creepy.
